The Month of the Precious Blood

July is the month of the Precious Blood. Come join us in prayer for our Church, our priests, and for vocations. Without the mission of the priest, we have no Eucharist, the pledge of God's Real Pressence among us, our hope of salvation. There will be a Holy Hour and Rosary Benediction on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at the Divine Mercy Chapel, at 7:00 p.m. Confession will be at 6:30 p.m.

CYO King's Island Day

The annual CYO "King's Island Day" is scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Tickets are available for $24.99 through the CYO Office. This is a savings of $23.00 per ticket. Please call 632-9311 for more information.

Adult Bible Study and Discussion Group Each Sunday

Adult Bible Study and Discussion Group continues each Sunday evening, from 7:00-8:30 pm, in the Parish Life Center. We are spending the Summer looking at the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church, published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This promises to be a lively time of discussion about scripture and the Catholic Church in general. We would love to have as many people participate as possible. Copies of the book are available for you to purchase from the Religious Education Office. If you are interested in learning more about the Church and about Social Doctrine in particular, then this may be just the faith-sharing kind of group you're looking for.

The Year of Priests: June 19, 2009 through June 19, 2010

Friday, June 26, 2009, will end the "Year of St. Paul", but Friday, June 19, 2009, began the "Year of Priests". Every Mass we will pray together for Father Varghese and the other priests in our community.

"Most gracious Heavenly Father, we thank you for our faithful priests and bishops, especially Father Varghese and Archbishop Daniel, whose spiritual fatherhood and example of fidelity, self-scrifice, and devotion is so vital to the faith of your people. May our priests be guided by the example of St. John Vianney. Give them valiant faith in the face of confusion and conflict; hope in times of trouble and sorrow; and steadfast love for you, for their families, and for all your people throughout the world. May the light of your truth shine through their lives and their good works. Assist all priests, that through your grace they may steadily grow in holiness, knowledge, and understanding of your truth. May they generously impart this knowledge to those who rely on them. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Cub Scout Leaders Needed!!!

Do you like working with kids in an educational atmosphere? If so, please consider volunteering to be an Adult Leader with Cub Scout Pack 400, here at St. Michael. Cub Scout Pack 400 begins its 50th year, and is in need of 3 or 4 adults, who are at least 18 years or older, to serve as Den Leaders or in support positions, under the direction of the Pack leadership. Only about 2 hours per week would be required, including the weekly meetings on Wednesday evenings from September through April. This is a great opportunity for men and women, who are retirees, young adults, or empty nesters. It is a great way to connect to young boys within the well structured programs of Cub Scouting. If you are interested or require more information, please contact Steve Roach. Come join and be part of the #1 youth organization in the world!

The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today's gospel reflects a common pattern in the ministry of Jesus: proclamation, opposition, restoration. We can even see his life, death, and resurrection as the model for this pattern. Jesus proclaimed the Good News; was opposed by the leaders unto death,; and was restored to his rightful place as the only Son of the Father. He promises the same for us Christians. In spite of opposition to lives that proclaim the Good News, we, too, will see restoration as children of the Father.

If you must change any of your duty times, you need to find someone to trade with or replace you.

  St. Vincent de Paul:
The St. Vincent de Paul Help Line is the start of the process to supply families in need of food, furniture, and clothing. This phone line would be forwarded to your home phone for one 4-hour period each month, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm or 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm, on a weekday.
Please call John O’Hara, at 879-1705, if you can help.

SVDP Help Line: 687-0169
Client Choice Food Pantry: 921-1401
Pick Up line (donations): 687-1006

The St. Vincent de Paul Corporate Offices and Food Pantry, located at 3001 East 30th Street, are in dire need of a receptionist to answer phones from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Saturday. We are an all volunteer organization, and hope to be able to staff the position with volunteers (each committing to serve one or more days or half days each week). The important thing is to ensure that the above times are ALWAYS covered. We have a couple of volunteers already, and would like to fill the remaining days. plus have some backup.
